Each ton of secondary material we produce reduces large amounts of emissions, energy usage, and landfill compared to primary production.
We’d like to congratulate Team 4 — Samir Soares, Stephen Marr, Mina Kazemi, and Salim Ubale for winning the SusHy CDT Stakeholder Challenge!
The Stakeholder Challenge is a two-week research challenge issued to PhD students from the Sustainable Hydrogen Centre for Doctoral Training (SusHy CDT) in collaboration with The Community Revolution and ourselves (Romco), to develop a zero-carbon hydrogen solution for the sustainable recycling of non-ferrous metals and wider community impact.
From the Universities of Nottingham, Ulster, Birmingham, and Loughborough, the best and brightest researchers in the UK battled it out against each other to solve the challenge of decarbonising one of the world’s largest emitters of carbon on the planet — the production of aluminium — by designing a feasible green hydrogen low-carbon solution.
Team 4 was the winner with a particularly well-researched and data-rich proposal, identifying key opportunities for both ourselves and The Community Company. We are extremely impressed with all the contenders. This was an incredibly gifted set of students who approached the problem from angles we had not imagined. Many thanks to all involved.
A special thanks to the SusHy CDT for putting on such a wonderful challenge!
