COPPER INGOTS

Romco's ultra-low carbon Copper Ingots

Copper (Cu) possesses the ability to be endlessly recycled and repurposed. Our secondary copper is indistinguishable from primary copper in terms of material quality; graded at up to 99% Cu content.

Producing primary copper is costly, energy intensive, and environmentally damaging. That’s why we’re working hard to provide more secondary copper into the market, reducing the reliance on primary sources.

By recycling copper, Romco reduce’s equivalent carbon emissions by up to 65% compared to primary production, while reducing landfill and negating the need for environmentally damaging raw materials mining.

What Are OUR Copper Ingots Made of?

Our copper ingots are made from 100% post-consumer copper scrap collected from trade hubs, intermediaries, automotive, and demolition sites throughout Nigeria, Ghana, and wider sources in West Africa.

Our scrap is then sorted in Romco recycling facilities, smelted through a specialist induction process, then cast into copper ingots with up to 99% quality copper content, ready for shipment to OEMs all across the globe.

Secondary Copper Ingots Process

The process of turning scrap into useable ingots can be broken down into 4 steps:

STEP 1Pretreatment: Sorting the scrap, stripping the scrap of contaminants, removal of ferrous metals (via magnetic separation). More involved processes include pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical methods. Removal of contaminants involves crushing the wires, and vibration to remove plastics (via gravity separation).

STEP 2Smelting: Copper is melted using a specialist induction process. This involves a coil carrying alternating electric current that surrounds a chamber of scrap copper. Eddy currents are induced in the metal (charge), the circulation of these currents subsequently produces extremely high temperatures that melt the copper.

STEP 3Quality Control: Romco operate strict quality control measures to ensure the highest grade copper remelt possible, eliminating almost all impurities. With our quality control process Romco achieves up to 99% pure copper ingots.

STEP 4Casting: The liquid materials are then recast into ingots and ready for shipping onto manufacturing, automotive, aeronautical, construction, and fittings production all over the world

WHY CHOOSE ROMCO METALS?

Increasing recycled materials supply to the point of ‘full global recyclable capacity’ is imperative in reducing (and eliminating) the reliance on raw materials mining for our means. We’re working collaboratively with investors, traders, and manufacturers across continents to collectively reduce global dependence on mining raw materials through recycling and smart waste management.

Romco offers a British solution to a global problem. We also work with local businesses in the areas we work via our Small Business Buying Programme, building agency and a truly circular economy. It’s giving back to local communities in a meaningful way that creates jobs and opportunities in the sustainable sphere.
